Vinesh Phogat has created history by becoming the first-ever Indian woman wrestler to qualify for the final of an Olympics. Vinesh defeated Yusneylys Guzman of Cuba 5-0 to enter the gold medal match of the women’s freestyle 50kg event.
Vinesh made a stunning start to her campaign by first beating the reigning Olympic champion Yui Susaki to advance to the quarters and then she beat Oksana Livach 7-5 to enter the semifinals.
During her match, Vinesh received two warnings for passivity and was put on the 30-second shot clock. Despite that, during the second period, she scored 4 points away from Guzman taking a decisive lead.
